News: GTA V Nets $1 Billion In 3 Days

gtavscreen10GTA V‘s success with gamers has gone down a treat, so much so that millions of eager gamers have handed over more than $1 billion to Rockstar to enjoy the latest criminal caper.

It’s an impressive feat, but is in no way undeserved. GTA V released on September 17th and took in just over $800 within its first 24 hours, as well as raking in high scores across the board. Though these numbers may sound impressive, they become even more so when you compared to Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which reached the $1 billion milestone in around 14 days.

We’d love to direct you over to our GTA V review, but it’s still in the process of being written, and by that we obviously mean we are far to busy playing around in our brand new digital toy box. It’s coming though, and when it does, we’ll let you know.

Rumour: GTA V Gameplay Screenshot Leaked

gtavscreen2According to an online post on the GTA V forums, a screenshot of some in-game action has been leaked.

The user going under the name ‘We ti terun’ posted an image of what looks to be a genuine in-game screenshot from the upcoming GTA V from Rockstar.

What’s a little odd is that the image hasn’t been removed (correct at time of writing) from the forums, so maybe Rockstar orchestrated this “leak” to build up more buzz for GTA V, if that’s even possible…

You can check out the image below:

It looks to be some sort of boat (duh,) though maybe a submersible? That would be a first for the series, and a pretty cool addition if I say so myself.

As I said before, the image looks to be the real deal and if it is indeed genuine, it’s looking great and we can’t wait to see it in action for ourselves. As for who posted it, we’ve no idea.

GTAVScreenshot4Rockstar is at it again, teasing us once more with some new screenshots from the upcoming GTA V.

The four new pictures give you a peek at the sort of activities you can take part it, whether it be riding around on a dirt bike, doing a spot of deep-sea diving, teasing the cops in a yellow American muscle care or partaking in some car-jacking, it’s all there for you to do.

Check the screens out down below:

They do look fantastic, that has to be said, though whether these screenshots represent the final product is a different story.

Grand Theft Auto V is set to release exactly four months from today on September 17th. So far GTA V has been confirmed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the next-gen platforms at some point.

News: Rockstar Releases 3 New GTA V Trailers, Makes Eyes Happy Everywhere

gtav10Rockstar have done us a solid today by releasing three brand new trailers for their upcoming open-world crime-fest, GTA V.

The three trailers each focus on the three playable characters, Michael, Franklin and Trevor and gives us a glimpse at their lives and motivation behind the carnage they cause.

Check out the three new GTA V trailers below, all embedded for your convenience.

Wow. Just wow. It’s going to be a difficult five months until GTA V actually sees the light of day, but hopefully Rockstar will keep us happy with more trailers and maybe even some gameplay footage, something that fans are crying out for despite the recent slew of information.

GTA V is set to release on September 17th this year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though rumours suggest it may see a release on the PlayStation 4 and Next Xbox. The PC and Wii U versions are “up for consideration” according to Rockstar’s Dan Houser.

News: 3 New Grand Theft Auto V Trailers Coming Next Week

gtav1If you’re itching for more information on Grand Theft Auto V, you wont have to wait very long.

Rockstar will be releasing not one, not two, but three brand new trailers on April 30th. Each trailer will focus on each of the main playable characters, Trevor, Michael and Franklin,  and will hopefully give us a bit of insight into what makes them tick. Or boom, whatever.

So make a note in your calendar/diary, April 30th, three new trailers. If you’re at work when they get released, no bother, just watch them quietly or nip to the toilet and watch them on your smartphone. Just make sure you don’t miss out on them! Not that they’re going to be deleted after ten minutes, but watching them as soon as they come out is always best.

Grand Theft Auto V is set to release later this year on September 17th for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. There’s no official confirmation that the game will be coming to the Wii U or PC, though they are apparently “up for consideration.” Rumours also suggest the game was delayed so that it could see a release on the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Next Xbox.

In the mean time, refresh your memory with the first two Grand Theft Auto V trailers down below.

News: Grand Theft Auto V Box Art Released

Grand-Theft-Auto-VWith Grand Theft Auto V still over 5 months away, we’re all desperate for anything we can get related to Grand Theft Auto V, even the box art.

Rockstar has been kind enough to release the box art and are also offering it as a free download for your desktop background, how kind.

You can check out the box art below, just try not to think about it still being months away from release…

It’s a pretty standard affair, nothing particularly mind-blowing. Still, it’s all we have for now and it’s the closest we can get to having the game without breaking into Rockstar HQ and stealing the game. We couldn’t pull it off, but maybe Sam Fisher could…

News: New Grand Theft Auto V Screenshots Released

gtav1Rockstar are really rubbing it in. Grand Theft Auto V was originally set to release this Spring, but then out of nowhere the publisher delayed the open-world crime fest until September 17th, pissing off a lot of people in the process.

Rockstar has now released a new batch of screenshots to keep us interested in the hotly anticipated sequel to Grand Theft Auto IV, and they’re doing a pretty good job to be fair. The latest batch of screenshots gives us a look at some of the activities that you’ll be able to partake in during your time in Grand Theft Auto V.

Check out the screenshots down below and just remember how long it is until you’ll actually get to play it. I know, it hurts.

These latest pictures are fairly impressive and offer just a glimpse of the vast open-world that sets the scene for Grand Theft Auto V. Screenshots are all well and good and give us a nice look at what’s going on in the game, but I think I’m not alone when I say we need to see some gameplay, and pretty soon.

Maybe Rockstar will show off a bit of gameplay this June at the annual E3 meeting? Or maybe not, we can hope…

News: Grand Theft Auto: V Release Date Announced

imagesRockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto V will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 from September 17.

The company has revealed that while the game was originally intended for a much earlier release sometime this spring, the delay was necessary in order to polish the game up.

A statement reads, “We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”

There was unfortunately no news on the rumoured PC and Wii U versions, so those of you hoping to play the fifth entry into the infamous series might just have to wait a little bit longer.

It’s worth noting that Rockstar’s previous big games like Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, and Grand Theft Auto VI have all come out in Spring, so it’s obvious this delay was not at all originally intended.

What do you think of the delay? Is this a smart move for Rockstar, or would you rather play an “unpolished game” per say? Let us know your thoughts on all things GTA in the comments!

Feature: Top 15 Most Anticipated Games For 2013

We all most likely have at least one game which we’re looking forward to in for 2013. Whether it be The Last of Us, Gears of War, or the Tomb Raider reboot, there’s no doubt that 2013 will be a very important year for games. Not only are we getting some of the best games that consoles like the 360 and PS3 have seen yet, the long rumored PS4 and 720 will probably come out later that year. Now, without further ado , here are some of the most anticipated games of 2013, (in no particular order).

Also, just so you know before we start, I originally had the title have 5, then felt the need to increase that number to 10, but by the time I finished, I realized 10 just wasn’t enough. Now, on to the list.

15. Dead Space 3

Whether or not you enjoyed the second one, this one does look promising. Visceral Games is back, with a bit of change, too. We’ll be getting co-op, and a new executive producer has been assigned, Arjan Bruseee (former Guerilla Games employee), so expect some great set pieces. All in all, you definitely shouldn’t forget about this one. February 5th, 2013.

14. Tomb Raider

A reboot of the once very popular Tomb Raider franchise, a new take on the series by Crystal Dynamics is leaving many fans of the series and newcomers in awe and at the amazing looking graphics, the gameplay, and the idea. Whether or not you’re a long-time fan of the series, you should definitely keep an eye on this one. March 5th, 2013.

13. God of War: Ascension

The earliest prequel yet in the God of War series – this one looks 10 times better than any God of War game we’ve seen yet, and we’re quite excited for it. I mean, sure, Kratos has screamed enough already, but what’s a little more? And, to top it all off, there’s multiplayer. Yup, you read that right. March 12th, 2013.

12. Aliens: Colonial Marines

Gearbox has taken a break from their Borderlands  series  and is taking a shot at the Alien franchise. The game will come with multiplayer and a campaign, using iconic weapons from the movie. The game sees the return of the Xenomorphs (obviously) and different enemies such as the “Runner” from the movie Alien 3. February 12th, 2013.

11. Gears of War: Judgment

So whether or not EPIC Games is returning for the prequel to the Gears of War series, a subsidiary studio based in Poland called People Can Fly will be handling the game, and damn does it look good so far. Not only will the game be adding new multi-player modes, but apparently the campaign will be emotional (again!), so stay tuned for a review. March 19th, 2013.

10. Rayman Legends

Ubisoft Montpellier is back with their reboot of the Rayman  series, and wow, it looks better than ever. It won some best platformer awards from some notable video game websites at E3, and it will be released exclusively for the Wii U… That’s not to say though it won’t come to consoles, whether they be this gen or next gen. February 26, 2013.

9. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

So whether or not Sucker Punch is back, the guys over at Sanzaru aren’t completely new to the Sly Cooper series. They managed the port of the original three to the Playstation 3, and Sucker Punch has been helping and overseeing the development of the game to make sure they get it right. From what we’ve seen, it looks just like a Sly Cooper game, and all previews have been positive so far. February 5th, 2013.

8. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Level 5 is back on with the Playstation brand with a hotly anticipated port of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Although the game has been released in Japan, it is still being localized for North America and Europe. If you haven’t played the demo on the PS Store yet, we highly suggest it, it’s fantastic. You can’t deny the game looks beautiful, and previews are saying the game is emotional, fun, and just downright awesome. January 22nd, 2013.

7. Remember Me

Originally a PS3 exclusive (now multi-platform), Capcom has apparently decided to take a shot with a brand new IP by Dontnod Entertainment. We’ll be playing as a woman named Nilin, a ‘memory hunter’ who will literally change people’s memories. There will be many combos to learn that will help the player, and believe us, there are a lot. 50,000+ according to Capcom. May, 2013.

6. Grand Theft Auto V

Yes, Rockstar is back ladies and gentlemen. This is quite possibly the most anticipated game for 2013, and the game looks simply stunning. Gameplay sounds very interesting, and you just can’t beat Rockstar North when it comes to having fun in open-world environments. We’re returning to San Andreas (Rockstar’s take on Los Angeles) and we’ll be able to visit Los Santos and Las Venturas (San Francisco and Las Vegas). Spring, 2013.

5. Bioshock: Infinite

Irrational games is back with their third entry into their Bioshock series, and this time we’re no where near Rapture, but rather the above ground (floating) city of Columbia. Columbia is a steam punk style floating city, run by factions set on keeping it for “pure American citizens only”. Expect to have some great gameplay, awesome set pieces, and an engaging story. March 26th, 2013.

4. Metro: Last Light

Although Metro 2033 was a flawed gem, 4A Games is looking to fix any and all problems with their sequel (Yes, the stealth parts were just unbearable). Last Light be be returning to the roots, and this time it will not be based off of it’s book counterpart, Metro 2034, but instead an entirely new story. We’ll follow Artyom again as he makes his way underground and aboveground in a post-apocalyptic Moscow. March, 2013.

3. Beyond: Two Souls

Quantic Dream is at it again, with another PS3 exclusive that looks downright beautiful. The game will follow a young girl named “Jodie Holmes” as she goes through 15 years of her life discovering the after life, death, entities, and more. Ellen Page will be playing Jodie, and she noted in an interview that the script is around 2000 pages long, so expect an incredible, engaging story with some awesome set pieces. May 25th, 2013.

2. The Last of Us

I don’t think this game will need much of an explanation. Anyone on the internet will most likely know what this is all about, but in case you don’t. Joel and Ellie respectively, 15 years after the world goes to hell, they’re one of the few remaining people who are sane or alive in (presumably) the world, and they’re heading towards a currently unknown destination. We’d highly suggest you go watch the trailers if you haven’t already, because the game looks like it’s going to be one of the best games this generation. May 7th, 2013.

1. Watch_Dogs

Everything is connected. It’s worth noting we have no window of release for this game yet, or whether or not it’s even on the current generation of consoles, but I think it’s high up on most people’s list for “anticipated games”. The game’s antihero Aiden Pearce can use any device tied to the city’s central operating system (ctOS) as a weapon against it. The game itself has a very interesting premise, and the fact that it’s a new IP is generating lots of hype around the gaming universe. 2013-2014

Bonus: Honorable Mentions:

Arma III

The Elder Scrolls Online

Company of Heroes 2

- Plants vs. Zombies 2

- Hotline Miami 2

Crysis 3

Star Wars 1313

Metal Gear Rising

Devil May Cry Reboot

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Dead Island: Riptide

Yakuza 5

Pikmin 3

Bayonetta 2

Total War: Rome II

What is interesting to note about practically all these titles (with the exception of Wii U exclusive titles) they’re coming out in early or in the middle of 2013, which can only mean one thing… new consoles at the end of 2013? We’ve heard practically nothing, but I think it’s now safe to assume they’re coming out then.

Until that time comes around though, be sure to stick around for more news, articles, and features.

News: 125 Million Copies of Grand Theft Auto’s Shipped And Still Counting

grand theft auto vSince Grand Theft Auto III’s release on PlayStation 2 in 2001, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been a mainstay in the gaming industry. And even before the next major iteration in the series – Grand Theft Auto V — comes out early next year, franchise publisher Take-Two Interactive has revealed some rather staggering news: 125 million copies of Grand Theft Auto games have, to date, been shipped.

This news comes by way of GameSpot, which reports that the number was announced by the publisher’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, at the Credit Suisse 2012 Technology Conference. Take-Two also told GameSpot that the company has shipped 25 million copies of Grand Theft Auto IV alone.

It’s important to note that “shipped” does not mean “sold”, but it is safe to assume that very few of the 125 million shipped copies haven’t reached consumers’ hands. It’s also important to note that, at 125 million copies, Grand Theft Auto is easily one of the best-selling gaming franchises in the history of the industry, even beating out the ever-gaining momentum juggernaut that is Call of Duty.

Rockstar: GTA V “Up For Consideration” On PC & Wii U

gta v pcGTA V may eventually make it to the PC and Wii U, according to Rockstar Vice President Dan Houser.

When questioned on why there has been no official confirmation from the publisher on a PC or Wii U version, Dan Houser stated:

“Everything else is up for consideration. That’s all I can give you. The main thing is we are not… we are a third-party publisher. We’re not Nintendo, we’re not Sony, we’re not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there’s the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that’s on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that’s the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don’t make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.”

Rockstar started out creating games for the PC platform, as many a PC gamer will proudly tell you, so to completely abandon it would be a disservice to fans.

On the other hand piracy is rampant on the PC, with GTA IV being pirated even to this day, you have to admit it’s obviously not going to be the platform of choice for the developer.

GTA V on the Wii U however is an interesting idea. A lot could be done with the Wii U’s unique control system, but whether the console is up to the task of handling GTA V is another question. At the moment we’ve seen mediocre ports with Mass Effect 3 and Batman: Arkham City.

All hope isn’t lost though, it’s all up for consideration and we can spend all day speculating, but at the end of the day we’re just going to have to wait and see.

GTA V’s Top New Details

GameInformer promised a massive blowout of information on Rockstar’s latest open-world crime-fest GTA V.

Well, steady yourselves, because that promise has been delivered with the latest issue from GameInformer, bringing with it a whole host of details and interviews with the people behind the scenes making the game happen.

Check out the main gameplay details below:

  • Three main protagonists: Trevor (career criminal), Michael (retired bank robber), and Franklin (street thug).
  • You’ll have the ability to switch between the three protagonists during most of the game, and at times they’ll come together to work as a team.
  • Each main character will have their own personality, motivation and skill sets.
  • The world of GTAV—Los Santos—is claimed to be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas, and GTA IV combined.
  • There will be underwater portions of the game’s world that you’ll be able to explore.
  • You’ll be able to customize the look of the main characters (but the game won’t have the deeper character stats of San Andres).
  • Some side missions that’ll be in the game are yoga, triathlons, tennis, full games of golf, jet skiing, and base jumping.
  • Rockstar promises side missions and activities that are more complex than Red Dead Redemption.
  • GTA V will feature an in-game economy to some extent (but no buying and selling of properties).
  • Heists will be a big part of the game.
  • In one example of what can happen in the game, a player leaves a trail of gasoline running to a vehicle, drops a lighter on the gas, the flame travels the trail to the vehicle, and there’s a huge explosion.
  • Phone interface will still be a part of the game, but with an updated look and UI, and friends will no longer call you.
  • You’ll be able to develop friendships in the game, but no romances.
  • The second trailer for GTA V will be coming on November 14th.

As you can see there’s no character stats or skill building like there was in GTA: SA. Some will be disappointed, others won’t care, and others will complain that Yoga is in the game but going to the gym isn’t.

First world problems…

Do you like the look of what’s to come? How about playing as three characters? Are you a yoga fan looking to get your yoga fix? Let us know in the comments below and remember to check back in with The Games Cabin for updates.
