When you first start Clash Royale, you will get 100 gems just for playing the game. Afterwards, you can obtain gems through a variety of methods.
Firstly, you can pay for them. This is an expensive option obviously, but there are some free ways to get them too. One of the best ways is by taking part in temporary in-game events, as these can have gems as a reward for completing them.
More gems can be obtained from Crown Chests in-game, which can be obtained themselves through Clan Wars, Challenges, Tournaments or winning them in battles. You can also get gems from Clan Wars or by completing Mastery Tasks.
You can get gems as a daily bonus from the Shop or from the Trophy Road, and these gems will be free to all players. Some in-game surveys and offers may also provide players with gems for taking part.
