Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty may still be some time away – it’s widely expected to release in 2016 – but we’re always on the lookout for little tidbits of information.
Today we’ve learned that Infinity Ward may be looking to spice up the multiplayer offerings even further.
A recent careers opportunity posting from Infinity Ward reveals that the studio are looking to give the multiplayer a kick up the backside with some new features and gameplay mechanics.
Infinity Ward is seeking an experienced Multiplayer Designer that is looking to create gameplay systems, game modes and scripted events for an exciting new project!
Candidates must have experience with C-style scripting languages and have the ability to think like a programmer to solve problems and accomplish a vision. Furthermore you should be comfortable writing script to handle gameplay systems such as basic AI behavior, cooperative mechanics, weapons, and scripted sequences.
Applicants should have the ability to show actual playable levels or gameplay systems that you have personally scripted for an existing title or personal project.
Requirements:
• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of game industry experience.
• Knowledge and prior experience with a C style programming or scripting language.
• Strong game design skills: must be able to intelligently discuss the strengths and weaknesses of recent games and be able to list techniques used to make fun FPS combat.
• Create and refine gameplay mechanics.
• Passion for First Person Shooters, Console or PC.
• Ability to collaborate well with your team.
• Prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Communicate progress with the Lead Designer well and frequently.
• Prior experience with ID Tech / Radiant, a plus.
• MP debugging experience, a plus. .
A second career ad also hints that the multiplayer will feature improved ‘bot’ A.I that willbe present amongst new game mechanics and play modes.
Infinity Ward is currently seeking AI Engineer in the Woodland Hills, CA area. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience in a similar role.

- 1+ shipped titles working as an AI Engineer for games.
- Experience crafting single-player AI and/or multiplayer bot AI.
- Strong design sensibilities and outstanding communication skills.
- Staunch work ethic and high personal standards of quality.
Responsibilities:
- Work with a team of engineers to maintain and extend our AI systems.

- Extend our multiplayer AI to handle new mechanics and play modes
- Collaborate with animators to craft realistic AI animation, in both combat and story-telling scenarios.
- Contribute creatively to our AI and game-play design.
Experience with the following is desirable:
- Architecting (or significantly extending) an AI decision framework
- AI on an FPS title.
- Fluency in 3D vector and matrix math.
- Modern animation techniques and blend trees.
- Play-control logic.
- Rigid body kinematics.
- Networked game logic.
- Extending an established code base.
Going on what we’ve highlighted in the above, it would appear that Infinity Ward are truly attempting to bring a fresh approach to the aging franchise.
Scripted events were first introduced properly with Ghosts allowing the maps to alter themselves, offering up a bit of spice and variety to the multiplayer offerings.
We previously reported that Infinity Ward were hard at work creating new gameplay mechanics, new weapons and more.
Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts released to fairly positive reviews but it was noted by many that it was just “more of the same” in a new game. Maybe they’ll follow Sledgehammer Games’ lead and try to replicate the success of Advanced Warfare? We’ll have to wait and see.
The next Call of Duty to release is expected to come from Black Ops 2 developer Treyarch around November of this year.
