Welcome to the Overwatch 2 guide on how to play Sojourn. Sojourn is a hero first introduced in the Overwatch 2 Beta Test. She is the acting Commander Vivian Chase, codename Sojourn. In this guide we will first go over the basics you will see in game regarding her skills and features, then dive deeper into how to play her properly.
Her unit of the Special Forces teamed up with Overwatch in the past, and she fought alongside Jack Morrison (Soldier: 76). After the war, Jack reached out to Sojourn to join the Overwatch forces.
The Basics
Passive & Role
Sojourn is a damage-dealing hero in Overwatch 2. She also benefits from a strong movement speed increase passive. This allows her to move around the field faster than many opponents.
Primary Weapon
Railgun is Sojourn’s Primary Weapon
- Sojourn uses a Railgun as her main weapon to rapidly fire projectiles that generate energy on hit with her basic attack. The Railgun has 40 rounds per clip before you need to reload.
- The right click button then uses a high impact shot to consume that stored energy for a bigger hit. When the right click is available, Sojourn will say “Railgun Charged” and you will see the right-click ability turn white, from red.
Sojourn’s Abilities
Ultimate: Overclock
Q – Sojourn’s abilities are energy-related. Her Ultimate Overclock will take the Railgun energy for a short duration and her shots will pierce enemies for massive damage. Simply activate Q, and use your abilities as you normally would for increased piercing damage.
Left Shift – Power Slide
Power Slide is a ground slide that you can cancel to jump quick high. The slide lasts quite some time, so it can be very effective. This adds great maneuverability to an already mobile hero. Good players can utilize this to move around and avoid getting hit by enemies.
You do not need to hold the key to keep sliding, simply press it once and it will slide the full duration unless you press jump.
E – Disruptor Shot
Disruptor Shot launches an energy burst that snares and deals damage to enemies within it. You can deal some good Area of Effect (AOE) damage to multiple players by utilizing this ability at the right time.
Gameplay Basic Strategy
The key to success with Sojourn in Overwatch 2, is to use her Railgun appropriately. You want to hit as many shots as possible with her main attack to charge up your Railgun. Once it is fully charged, which happens with less than 1 clip if you are hitting most of your shots, you can unleash the beast.
Once your Railgun is charged, aim precisely and deal up to 100 damage with your secondary shot. The kicker? Get a headshot. With a headshot you can deal 200 damage and one-shot many of the heroes in Overwatch. The secondary shot will work as a hit-scan attack which means you just have to line up a headshot perfectly and worry less about projectile fire speed. You will deal more damage if you have fully charged up your weapon before unit this secondary attack.
Utilize the Disruptor Shot when you see opponents in a tight vicinity. This is a great opener shot as it will deal damage and also slow enemies to start with, making it easier for you and your team to open up and fire away. You will have a full 15 second cooldown with this ability, so use it wisely.
Power Slide has a generous 7 second cooldown. This means you can use it much more liberally as a way to get around the field faster, and evade fire much easier. Use this to your advantage to dodge enemy fire and make them have to work much harder to hit shots on you.
When you have your Ultimate Overclock activated, make sure you use your secondary attack energy beam whenever possible. When the ultimate is activated, the energy beam will regenerate much faster, allowing you to get several shots off in quick succession.
Sojourn Tips and Tricks
- Use Primary Fire as much as possible: Sojourn’s reload time is super quick. Use this to your advantage to constantly fire your primary weapon. Hits will help generate more energy for your secondary shot, where you will want to line up a good shot.
- Target Tanks with Primary Fire: Tanks generally have larger hitboxes, which will make them much easier targets to hit with your primary fire. The more hits you land, the faster your energy will build up for a great release of your secondary.
- Shoot From Afar: You won’t have a ton of great close range abilities, so you will want to stand in the back if possible and avoid getting hit.
- Use Secondary Shot Energy Beam on Support or DPS Heroes: As mentioned above, you can one shot many character with a full energy beam charge. Use this attack on heroes with less defense for easy kills.
- Don’t Be Afraid to Use Power Slide: Don’t use Power Slide just any time, because it will make it harder for you to hit your own shots. However, if someone is targeting you, don’t be afraid to use it to get away and adjust your aim to the threat.
Aim Better With Sojourn
- Lead Your Target with Primary Railgun Shots: These primary shots carry much slower than a hit-scan weapon. If your enemies are moving, aim ahead of where they currently are. This will allow your bullets to collide with them as they move.
- Aim Your Secondary Shot Direct: Your secondary energy beam shot is hit-scan, unlike your primary shot. When you are ready to unleash your secondary attack, make sure you are aimed directly at the enemy. Don’t be afraid to take your time when lining up this shot to ensure a headshot. It could be a matter of a one-shot kill on some 200 HP heroes.
- Keep Your Aim At The Head: Even when running around before combat begins, try to keep your crosshairs points generally in the area where an enemy’s head would be. This way when you engage, your crosshair will be much closer to a headshot and you will need to adjust your aim much less.
- Eliminate Enemies: If you know an enemy is almost dead, don’t be afraid to finish them off with body shots. You will do much less damage than headshots, but you may be able to take them out more efficiently if they are almost out of health.
