Rockstar Leeds, best known for the impressive Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for the Playstation 2 and PSP, could possibly be hard at work on another mobile GTA game.
According to a job listing on the Rockstar website, the studio is currently hiring ‘Mobile Game Programmers’, which could be anything from your smart phone to your PS Vita, maybe even 3DS.
The full job listing details are below:
“Rockstar Leeds are looking for ingenious, ambitious developers to help bring the best Rockstar titles to the mobile gaming world. If you are passionate about mobile gaming, can use size and features to your advantage and want to prove what mobile can do, come show us your skills.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team of skilled developers to bring Rockstar games to the mobile market

- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- 1+ downloadable, shipped mobile game with touch functionality.
Additional Information
- Passion for mobile gaming
- Excellent C++ skills
- Good knowledge of native APIs including UI/touch screen functionality
- Good handle on CPU optimisation.”
What’s interesting is that Rockstar Leeds seem to primarily be focused on mobile games, with the recent exception of L.A Noire, for which they provided the Windows port.
This listing could mean anything, possible a San Andreas Stories to tie in with GTA V, maybe a GTA IV Stories, or maybe it’s nothing GTA related at all. However, it’s not hard to be optimistic, the poor PS Vita needs some more top quality games, and with Rockstar on the list of developers who will be supporting the handheld, it’s easy to get carried away in wishful thinking.
Personally, I’m a cup half full and I fully expect a GTA to hit the PS Vita harder than a bat to the face, selling 100 million copies and making the Vita the best-selling console of all time.
Optimism’s a good thing!
