There’s been some speculation since the Xbox One reveal that Crackdown may be making a comeback, with rumours of a Crackdown 3 being in the works for the Xbox One.
During the Xbox One reveal back in May, images from the Microsoft owned franchise could be seen, prompting many to speculate that Microsoft hasn’t been completely upfront with what’s coming from their first party studios.
When asked by the folks over at IGN, Phil Spencer of Microsoft Studios wasn’t giving much away, but just enough to keep our interest levels at a maintainable level.
“Oh… Crackdown is one of my favorite games, and not just because it’s a Microsoft first-party game. I have a lot of love for that franchise. The homage to Crackdown in the (May 21 event) reveal screenshots was… I know there was some, like, ‘Did we accidentally sneak that…?’ It wasn’t accidental. Definitely.”
So there you have it, from the top-boss himself. Crackdown was a fantastic game back in the day, the sequel was an expensive turd, but the original was great on so many levels with its simplicity and fun gameplay. If Microsoft reverted back to the original formula that made the franchise a success, I’m pretty sure there would be a lot of happy campers.
