The sequel for our first rank list is here!
Introduction
I have been playing League of Legends since its release and I have always found the lores in the game itself fascinating. They allow you to immerse deep down within the stories around which the game was built. Sure the first couple of champions were simply created and the follow up stories have been released like some addition to them, to give them some depth, but as the game progressed and continue to rise in popularity around the world, League of Legends creators have seen the opportunity to tell a story for each champion so they have created the universe that is called Runterra. These back stories help you connect with your favorite champions on a deeper level and may even influence your choice for your favorite champion as well. I know that it has influenced me for sure.
There are a lot of amazing stories in the League of Legend’s universe that really explain the universe to a reader and make a player much more immersed in the game since, the one keeps imagining the world of Runterra while playing the champion in the Summoner’s Rift. But nothing can be perfect, since there are many champions that really have awful lores that need drastic improvement, and I am here to point those champions out and hopefully these articles will find their way into Riot Games’ HQ so that they can finally fix these monstrosities.
Disclaimer: When these lists are made there are 159 champions in the game, by the time it is finished there probably will be some new additions to the universe so I will fit them in the current roster at the time of their release.
Previous edition:
155: Corki
An old war veteran that suffers from insanity, PTSD and Pyromania was forced into retirement and now he can’t get over the fact that he is not 20 anymore but rather bitches about it to everyone.
Best part of the lore
‘’Corki is the most renowned of the Screaming Yipsnakes for remaining cool under fire and exhibiting bravery to the point of madness. He served several tours of duty, often volunteering for missions that would take him behind enemy lines, either gathering intelligence or delivering messages through hot zones. He thrived on danger, and enjoyed nothing more than a good dogfight in the morning. ‘’
Cool, he watches too much Top Gun.
The worst part of the lore
’’He tried to make do with stunt flying and canyon running, but it was never the same without the refreshing smell of gunpowder streaking through the air around him.’’
What?
154: Kenen
Little guy suffering from Separation Anxiety Disorder. He decided that he was worthy, became some kind of Ninja temple master. The war broke out, he had a student, Akali, didn’t expect her to flee. She did. Kenen sad. End of story
The best part of the lore
‘’Kennen was intrigued by the order, led by a distant Eye of Twilight and a vindictive Fist of Shadow. He realized that the Kinkou’s leadership required another aspect. A consensus builder, one who would prevent the warlike Fist from domineering over the introspective Eye, and likewise keep the Eye’s tireless observation from paralyzing the Fist.’’
I have no idea what they are talking about but it’s nicely written. You know cool words like vindictive and stuff.
The worst part of the lore
‘’Kennen urged the Fist of Shadow, Mayym, to look to her daughter Akali, whom he’d trained since childhood, and see her as a successor.
But even he couldn’t find the words to stop Akali from eventually leaving the Kinkou, frustrated at the order’s failure to act against Ionia’s enemies.’’
Much trauma, so sad, me cry.
153: Cho’ Gath
Ok, pay attention to the horrific lores about the Void creatures. You will see a pattern emerging. They are short, but at least they are awful. They tell us nothing. Watch this. Cho’Gath is a scary monster from the Void. Oh he is so terrible. He is such a bad boy. Ooookay, this became kinky way to soon.
The best part of the lore
‘’If such tales are true, then the rumors that follow must be equally true – that one day, the Voidborn will return. Even now, something dark stirs in Icathia. Cho’Gath, an alien creature of malice and violence, causes all but the most stalwart to cringe in fear. Cho’Gath even appears to feed on its predations, growing and swelling as it gorges itself. Worse yet, the creature is intelligent, perhaps greatly so, hinting at the sentient horror of the Void.’’
Nothing to see here, I just like words like Ichatia and Voidborn.
The worst part of the lore
‘’Cho’Gath is a creature born of the Void, a thing whose true nature is so awful most will not speak its name. Its fellows have been poking at the walls that divide dimensions for a crack, a way into Runeterra, where they can visit their own personal paradise of horror upon the world. They are called the Voidborn, creatures so ancient and terrible that they have been removed from history altogether. It is rumored that the Voidborn command vast armies of unspeakable creatures on other worlds, that they were once driven from Runeterra by powerful magic lost to antiquity.’’
So scared. Still love the words though. You know, command vast armies, magic lost to antiquity, come on this is gold in here. You could write a dictionary with this stuff.
152: Shaco
Honestly, this brings me so much pain since I really love Shaco. I really do. Why did they do my boy this dirty? There was no need for that honestly. A fun, interesting champion, he has cool mechanics too. I mean there must have been an open space about the demons of Runeterra. He easily could have been one of those demons with Evelyn, Nocturne and Fiddlesticks. No one can prove me otherwise. He’s got the looks, he’s got the spells, he looks kinda nuts, the only thing missing is a good story! Come on, Riot! Wake up!
The best part of the lore
Go down and you will find out
The worst part of the lore
Just a little bit more
The whole God damn lore
‘’Most would say that death isn’t funny. It isn’t, unless you’re Shaco – then it’s hysterical. He is Valoran’s first fully functioning homicidal comic; he jests until someone dies, and then he laughs. The figure that has come to be known as the Demon Jester is an enigma. No one fully agrees from whence he came, and Shaco never offers any details on his own. A popular belief is that Shaco is not of Runeterra – that he is a thing from a dark and twisted world. Still others believe that he is the demonic manifestation of humanity’s dark urges and therefore cannot be reasoned with. The most plausible belief is that Shaco is an assassin for hire, left to his own lunatic devices until his services are needed. Shaco certainly has proven himself to be a cunning individual, evading authorities at every turn who might seek him for questioning for some horrendous, law-breaking atrocity. While such scuttlebutt might reassure the native inhabitants of Valoran, it seems unimaginable that such a malevolent figure is allowed to remain at large.
Whatever the truth of his history might be, Shaco is a terrifying, elusive figure most often seen where madness can openly reign.’’
Yeeeeeeeeup. That is actually it. I really don’t have anything to say. I mean I expected this from Heimer, he is a rubbish champion that no one plays, but Shaco? Not cool. The only reason why I didn’t put him in the previous list with Heimer is because Heimer is a walking and talking brain that is 20 high. Shaco is a demon. We can’t put them side to side. Not on my watch.
